A bomb exploded in front of a godown located at a residential area of Kairang Muslim Mayai Leikai, Imphal East under the jurisdiction of Heingang police station on Thursday at about 4.19 am after it was planted by a miscreant. The godown belonged to one Md Tolen of Kairang Muslim Mayai leikai.
According to CCTV footage, an unknown person came in a four-wheeler (Maruti 800) and was seen planting the bomb in front of the godown. The bomb exploded about 4 minutes after he left from the spot.
No casualties were reported till the filing of this report and no claims have been made in connection with the blast. Police reported that the bomb was an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
Meanwhile, Seven Eight Six Sporting club, Kairang Muslim Mayai Leikai, Imphal East and locals of the area strongly condemned the incident in a release signed by president of Seven Eight Six Sporting club, Kairang Muslim Mayai Leikai, Imphal East. It appealed not to repeat such acts in the future.
On Wednesday, a team of district commando, Imphal West recovered a hand grenade at about 11.50 am from the residence of Wahengbam Kemeshor Singh, 52, son of late W Ibohal Singh of Bishnupur ward number 2 presently staying at Kwakeithel Mayai Koibi near Shishu Nistha Niketan, school, Imphal West.
The grenade was recovered from the Mayai Koibi, Imphal West district residence and handed over to Lamphel police station. Police said as per CCTV footage the grenade was lobbed at about 5.50 pm on Tuesday.
