A huge number of volunteers thronged the Chandel District Hospital to donate blood and save lives even before the scheduled blood donation and awareness campaign began on Tuesday.
Blood donation camp cum awareness campaign-2022 was held at Chandel District Hospital on Tuesday by the Royal Riders Chandel (RRC) along with the Thoubal District Hospital and the Chandel District Hospital in collaboration with the DC, SP and Assam Rifles of Chandel.
The programme started with Alfred Monsang, member RRC welcoming the dignitaries followed by a welcome speech from the Chief of Royal Riders Chandel, Kothyeldawn Khaling.
“The faceless workers at the hospital who worked day and night to save lives and who stay behind the curtains, the humble doctors/nurses and all the supporting staff are to be applauded,” Mayanglangbam Rajkumar, DC Chandel, said.
Suggesting that such a noble act must continue, he applauded RRC by saying that the riders also “played a major role in bringing this event together but from behind the scene”.
Dr Th Joyson Monsang, MS, District Hospital Chandel said that as the district hospital is not a blood bank but just a storage facility, it can’t store much blood because blood has its expiry date. Even if we want to store beyond the capacity of the facility, it will not serve the purpose, he said.
Major Dayananda Singh of 21 AR and Shankarjeet Singh, Addl SP of Chandel both agreed that every blood counts and no one knows when one will need it and that the district hospital is the main priority for seeking medical attention as and when needed.
The programme was also attended by Shankarjeet Singh, Addl. SP, Chandel; Major Dayananda Singh, 21 AR; Dr. Th. Joyson Monsang, MS, District Hospital, Chandel and two resource persons namely Dr. L. Dorendro Singh, Sr Specialist IHTM, Blood Centre, District Hospital, Thoubal and Dr. Sanjay Nandeibam, Specialist, IHTM, District Hospital, Chandel.
