BJP stakes claim for forming new Manipur government; congratulatory wishes pour in for Biren

Biren, who is set to lead the new government in Manipur as chief minister for the second term, called on the state governor with other senior party leaders.

N Biren Singh on Sunday after being reelected unanimously as the Lesgislative leader of the BJP in Manipur said that he along with Union ministers Nirmala Sitharaman, Kiren Rijiju and other senior party leaders called on Governor La Ganesan and staked claim for forming the next government in the state. 

"After being elected as the Leader of@BJP4Manipur State Legislature Party, I along with Smt@nsitharaman Ji, Shri@byadavbjp Ji, Shri@KirenRijiju Ji & senior party leaders called on Hon’ble@manipurgovernor Shri La Ganesan Ji and staked claim for forming the next Government," Biren tweeted.

Soon after the announcement of his reappointment as the state chief minister, several party leaders showered Biren with congratulatory wishes and said the state will attain new heights of development under his leadership.

"Congratulations to Shri@NBirenSingh ji for being re-appointed as the leader of @BJP4Manipur Legislative Party and continue as 'Meeyamgi' CM for a 2nd term. I am confident that the state will continue to make progress under your leadership and attain new heights of development," BJP president A Sharda Devi tweeted.

Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju also took to Twitter and said Manipur will see more progress as per the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"Congratulations to@NBirenSingh Ji on being elected as the leader of@BJP4Manipur Legislature Party. Manipur will witness more progress as per the vision of hon'ble PM@narendramodi Ji and the aspirations of the people of Manipur," Rijiju tweeted.

"Hearty Congratulations and best wishes to Shri@NBirenSingh ji, on being elected as the leader of the Legislative party for@BJP4Manipur," BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra tweeted.

BJP leader Bhupendra Yadav, Union Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change; and Labour & Employment, also posted on Twitter:

"I congratulate and extend my best wishes to Shri@NBirenSingh ji on being elected as the leader of the Legislative Party for@BJP4Manipur".

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal said Manipur will witness a new era of development.

"Congratulations to Shri @NBirenSingh ji for being unanimously elected as the leader of @BJP4Manipur Legislature Party. I hope that your consecutive term as the Chief Minister of Manipur will witness a new era of development under the guidance of PM Shri @narendramodi ji," he tweeted.

Mizoram BJP spokesperson Mmhonlunmo also congratulated Biren.

"Congratulations to@NBirenSingh ji for being re-appointed as legislature party leader of the newly elected BJP Legislators. He will continue as the Chief Minister of Manipur for a second term," he tweeted.

Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal called on Biren and congratulated him, saying "astute leadership will carry forward the huge growth journey of Manipur". 

"Called Shri @NBirenSingh ji and congratulated him on being elected as the Chief Minister of Manipur for the second time. His astute leadership will carry forward the huge growth journey of Manipur. Extended my best wishes," Sonowal tweeted.

The Twitter handle of BJP in Manipur also posted a congratulatory note:

"Congratulations and best wishes to Shri@NBirenSingh on being elected as the leader of BJP Manipur Pradesh legislative party & the Chief Minister of Manipur". 

The Manipur BJP won the recent 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly 2022 by securing 32 of the 60 assembly seats.

Biren retained the Heingang assembly seat for the record fifth time, defeating his rival INC candidate P Sharatchandra by 18,271 votes. Of the 31,596 total votes recieved in the constituency, Biren bagged 24,814 votes (78.54 per cent), while Sharatchandra received 6,543 votes (20.71 per cent).

Biren also won the state Assembly election in 2017 and became the first BJP chief minister in the state.
