The Manipur BJP leaders’ meeting with Central leaders in New Delhi was to celebrate the party’s victory in the recent Assembly election 2022 and nothing related to the state BJP legislature party leader was discussed, said MLA Th Biswajit who returned to Imphal alone in a separate flight on Thursday.

Amid high suspense and reports of division in the party over the new government formation in the state, Biswajit had set out to Delhi together with caretaker chief minister N Biren, state party president A Sharda Devi and state party organisation general secretary Abhay Giri on March 15.

“There was nothing discussed regarding the leader of state BJP legislature. The meeting with central leaders was to celebrate the victory of BJP in the recent election of Manipur,” said Biswajit, MLA from Thongju AC.

Biswajit was speaking to reporters at the Bir Tikendrajit International Airport in Imphal on his return from New Delhi on Thursday after meeting Central leaders in New Delhi, along with caretaker chief minister N Biren and state party president A Sharda Devi.

However, the parliamentary board of Central leaders will be announcing the state legislature party leader, he said, adding that the announcement is delayed as Parliamentary session is underway.

When asked about the news of Biren returning as chief minister for the second term that went viral in national media, he said it was only a speculation and based on the speculation some of the party members celebrated at the state party office. However, the celebration was stopped soon after, he added.

Blasting of crackers was heard at the BJP office located at Nityaipat Chuthek, Imphal on Thursday. When this reporter asked one of the BJP officials what was the reason for the celebration, he said they started celebrating on hearing the viral news in national media.

Biswajit said regarding the legislature party leader, the state will follow the instruction of the Central leaders.

When asked about returning alone in an Indigo flight, Biswajit said there was no issue on returning in a different flight. "It is due to unavailability of flight ticket and due to some personal purpose he came early in a separate flight," he said.

There is no issue on selection of state BJP legislature party leader and no groupism among the newly inducted BJP representatives, he added.
