Behiang Ambush: One remanded in NIA custody

Thangkhuallian from Singngat sub-division has been remanded in NIA custody in connection with an ambush laid by militants on November 13, 2021, near Behiang village, which killed Col Vipul, his wife and his only son along with four jawans.

The Special Court, NIA Manipur on Saturday remanded Thangkhuallian from Singngat sub-division to 10-day NIA custody in connection with an ambush laid by militants on November 13, 2021, near Behiang village, which killed Col Vipul, his wife and his only son along with four jawans.

One Commanding Officer of Assam Rifles, his wife, a minor son and four other personnel of Assam Rifles were killed in the ambush, while six other personnel sustained injuries. The arrested person, who is identified as Thangkhuallian from Singngat sub-division, was produced before the Special Court, NIA Manipur by a team of NIA along with a prayer for 10-day police custody for smooth investigation of the case.

The Court, on perusal of the case and after hearing the submission of the NIA, remanded Thangkhuallian to NIA custody till June 5, sources informed. Khamliankhup, father of Thangkhuallian, was also arrested a few days back and is presently in NIA custody; Khamliankhup was produced before the same court a few days ago and he was remanded to NIA custody till May 30.

The NIA took over the case as per an order of the Home Affairs Ministry a few days after the deadly ambush on a convoy of 46 Assam Rifles on November 13 morning last year at Shingnat area near Indo-Myanmar border.
