Manipur Congress MLA Th Joykisan suggested Election Commission of India (ECI) and Chief Electoral Office (CEO), Manipur to take necessary steps to ban election campaign, erection of political party flag and others till election notification is issued in order to bring a reformation for a good system of democracy.
He was speaking during the inauguration of the community hall of Lalambung Takhellambam Youth Development Organisation (LTYDO) located at Lalambung Takhellambam Leikai, Imphal West on Wednesday.
He said to bring a good democratic system a reformation is needed. Monitoring of election expenditure after issue of election notification could be useless, instead of that ECI and CEO, Manipur should issue an order on banning erection of political party flags, campaigning using political party flag and banner and others so that expenditure could be controlled, he added.
He further said with the issue of political flags and banners various crimes have been increasing with the coming of Manipur Legislative Assembly Election, 2022. As an intending candidate or social-worker they can contact the public individually; however, the present trends of using political party flags and others are becoming one of the reasons for inviting crimes among the public, said Joykisan.
Joykisan said ECI and CEO Manipur need to take necessary steps in order to avoid political campaigns which could lead to crime and violence.
“Let people judge their right candidate instead of forcing them”, said Congress MLA.
