BABINA Hospital in Khabeisoi observed World Heart Day on Sunday with a free heart check-up camp, in line with global celebrations of the event, to mark the occasion.
The event was held on the theme ‘Use Heart for Action’, which aimed at raising awareness about heart disease and preventive measures for cardiovascular diseases, stated a release.
Altogether 51 individuals were provided free check-ups, tests, and medications during the free heart check up camp organised in association with Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Limited, it mentioned. The services provided include body weight assessment, blood pressure checks, electrocardiograms, blood sugar tests, lipid profiles (cholesterol), thyroid function tests, hepatitis B and C screenings and microalbumin tests, it stated.
Speaking on the sidelines, Senior Consultant, BABINA Hospital, Dr Ksh Kala, emphasised that cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death worldwide, claiming more than 18.6 million lives annually, with the majority of fatalities occurring in low and middle-income countries, it stated.
He stressed the need for making changes in the lifestyle, such as improved diet, increased exercise and better stress management, to effectively manage heart health and combat CVD, it maintained.
Doctors, nurses and non-medical staff of BABINA Hospital also carried out a rally on the hospital campus, carrying banners and chanting slogans such as ‘No Smoking’, ‘No Alcohol’, ‘Exercise Regularly’, ‘Eat Healthy,’ ‘Control Blood Pressure’, ‘Maintain a Healthy Weight’ and ‘No Tobacco’ as part of the observance, it added.
