Awareness campaign on millet production held in Churachandpur

The campaign under ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ was organised under the aegis of ICAR RC for NEH Region joint director I Meghachandra Singh.

A one-day awareness campaign on ‘Millet Production for Increasing Farm Income’ as a part of ‘Mega campaign on Annadata Bhava’ was organised at ICAR Research Complex, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Churachandpur on Saturday.

The campaign under ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ was organised under the aegis of ICAR RC for NEH Region joint director I Meghachandra Singh.

The event was attended by DAO, Churachandpur Mk Elizabeth as the chief guest, along with more than 50 farmers from different villages of Churachandpur.

As part of the occasion, resource person of the event and plant protection specialist N Johnson Singh elaborated on millet varieties, package practice, seed production technologies, and pests and diseases management, followed by L Somendro Singh’s lecture on soil and nutrients management for millet with special emphasis on Churachandpur district.

In the inaugural session, ICAR, Churachandpur in charge L Somendro Singh highlighted the various benefits of millets such as drought and pest resistance. “Millets are especially rich in vitamin B, iron, phosphorus and many other key micronutrients, and they are gluten free alternatives to finer cereals since they are alkaline rather than acidic in nature,” he said. 

Speaking on the occasion, Mk Elizabeth highlighted the benefits of millets during food scarcity. She urged the PM Kissan card holders to avail loan under KCC for which DAO are prepared to aid genuine farmers.
