Attack in Kamjong district claims two lives

Unknown miscreants set ablaze 43 houses in N Mollen village and 23 houses in T Nadyang village in Kamjong district on Thursday.

At least two people died and two others were injured, and 63 houses burned in an attack by unknown miscreants at N Mollen village, which is located 23 km south west from Kasom Khullen Police Station in Kamjong district on Thursday, around 5 am, sources said.

The attackers in the said village set ablaze 43 houses in N Mollen village and 23 houses at T Nadyang village, which is located 3 km away from N Mollen village, the sources said.

No casualties were reported in T Natyang village as the villagers had already deserted their houses a few days ago, the sources added.

The two deceased have been identified as one 48-year-old Jaminthang Kipgen, son of (L) Letsei Kipgen and 68-year-old Deikhokim Simte, wife of Lenchinthang Simte and the injured persons are 25-year-old Jangminlal Haokip, son of Ngulkholun Haokip and 28-year-old Thangkholun Haokip, son of Thongmang Haokip, all from N Mollen village, the police said.

The two injured persons went missing after receiving first aid at PHC Kasom Khullen of which, the villagers said that they might have gone to Churachandpur, the sources said.

As per the report filed by the village chief of N Mollen village to Kasom Khullen Police Station, around 2,000 people were involved in the attack.

The bodies will be taken to JNIMS mortuary to conduct a post-mortem by a team of Kasom Khullen Police Station after carrying out an inquest by SDO Island Kangpokpi district on Friday.

As per reports, personnels of Assam Rifles post in Somrei Hills were denied entry at N Mollen and T. Natyang village by a large number of women at the foothills of the AR post during the attack.
