A woman who was allegedly assaulted by two persons at Moidangpok village in Imphal West sought public support and demanded justice by calling a press conference on Tuesday.
The incident comes after armed miscreants fired indiscriminately towards a group of Meira Paibi and club members recently. Earlier, four armed miscreants with AK-47 had looted over Rs 4 lakh from a family at Lairikyengbam Leikai in Imphal East and in another incident.
The victim, Ningthoukhongjam Ibeyaima, 47, wife of N Manglem of Moidangpok Khunou Mamang Leikai under Patsoi Police State was allegedly physically assaulted by two persons whom she named as Oinam Brojan, 43, son of Nupamacha and Oinam Brojen, 37, son of O Samungou.
She told the media at Manipur Press Club that the two started kicking at her “over some petty matter” while she was returning after catching fish from the nearby canal. The incident happened around 9.30 pm on October 8.
Members of the Western Modern Club, Moidangpok Khunou Mamang Leikai said that they have lost faith in the police; therefore, they have come to the media instead of filing a complaint at the police station.
“We have witnessed on various occasions where the police failed to listen to us and favor the rich and powerful. That is why we have come to the media, hoping that people across the state will help us in bringing justice to the victim,” a club member said. Both persons involved were summoned after the incident; however, they have failed to present themselves before the club members, he added.
The local club representatives urged the people to help deliver justice to the victim.
