The land affected villagers of various areas organised a sit-in-protest under the aegis of Asian Highway Land Affected Villages Chairmen/Chief's Association (Gamgiphai to Taphou Kuki) at their respective places along the National Highway on Saturday.

The land affected villagers demanded the state government to honour the land survey conducted by DC/LA Kangpokpi, and revoke and rectify all land acquisition orders and resolve the issue at the earliest.

The land-affected villagers from Kalapahar area staged a sit-in-protest at Kalapahar bazar along the National Highway 2. The protesters in all locations put up a similar banner written to honour the land survey conducted by DC/LA Kangpokpi, fair and justified compensation.

They also held placards that read, "Don't play with our rights", "Our land is our life", "No development at the cost of violation of landowner's rights",  "Implement LARR Act in letter and spirit", "No compensation No Work", "We will fight for Justice till last", etc.

At Kalapahar, Milan Pradhan, one of the affected victims said that we are not against any development but not at the cost of our land without proper compensation and also without the consent of the landowners.

"We believe in the present ruling Government's Saab ka Saat, Saab ka Vikas but if it happens to be 'Aap ka Saat, Hum Barbat' we will never accept it," Milan said, adding that "unless we are compensated following only the land survey conducted by DC Kangpokpi we will no more allow an inch of our land for the highway expansion and widening".

At Keithelmanbi, Dehlam Lhouvum, who is also the chairman of Keithelmanbi Village Authority said that the government must first revoke and rectify all land acquisition orders and honour the survey conducted by DC Kangpokpi.

He also demanded the state government to compensate them accordingly following the land survey conducted by DC Kangpokpi and only then will they allow the expansion and widening of the highway work.

At Bongmol area sit-in-protest, Neneng Lunkim, one of the land affected victims said that all they want is to honour the land survey conducted by DC Kangpokpi and compensate them fairly and justifiably.

Sit-in-protest was also held at the Bimparao and Motbung area by the land affected victims. Protesters cautioned that if the government fails to revoke all the land acquisition orders and rectify them at the earliest they will be compelled to resort to more intense forms of agitations.

At Charhajare, one Dipesh Sharma demanded compensation and to respect, honour the land survey of DC Kangpokpi.

At Gamgiphai, one Hegou Haokip said that they are protesting against the government for its intentional violation of the landowner's rights.

Meanwhile, the Thadou Students' Association Sadar Hills extended its endorsement and support towards the land affected victims and the Asian Highway Land Affected Villages Chairmen/Chief's Association.

“We fully endorse all the previous objections put up by AHLAVCCA and its movement and agitation to honour the land survey conducted by DC/LA Kangpokpi as well as for fair and justified compensation to the rightful landowners,” it stated.
