Forum for Restoration of Peace convenor Ashang Kashar on Wednesday appealed to the government to arrange a meeting with the MLAs and the CSOs to deliberate on a means to end the prevailing Manipur crisis.
Ashang Kashar also strongly condemned the assassination of SDPO Moreh Chingtham Anand by Kuki militants with a sniper rifle.
Speaking to the media at Manipur Press Club, Ashang Kashar said the government should take proactive measures to end the ongoing conflict. “The people of the state want to live a peaceful co-existence. How can the government say peace has been restored?” he said.
The government should let the people know what steps are being taken up to restore peace and normalcy in the state, and it is the responsibility of the government to let people know about it, he added.
Ashang Kashar further said different political parties of the state should not make statements that will hurt the sentiment of a particular community.
He further questioned if the frequent visits by the leaders of the political party in Manipur to meet the Central leaders are to increase the killings in the state.
Co-convenor, Md Kheiruddin Shah Moijingmayum expressed unhappiness over valley based CSOs “which have not expressed a single word” against the killing of a Pangal from Kshetrigao, Imphal East.
The government assured of arresting the culprits but no arrest has been made, he said.
