A combined team of Bishnupur district police commando and a column of 31 Assam Rifles, Loktak Battalion seized arms and ammunitions and arrested two persons on Friday.
The incident occurred during frisking and checking duty at Toubung Bazaar, Bishnupur district.
The arrested persons have been identified as one T Kamminthang, 42, son of late Ginsuan of Tongciin, Tonzang, Myanmar presently staying at Lungthul village, Churachandpur District and Thangbiaklal Ngaihte, 35, son of Lalmalsawm of Nehru marg, Central Lamka, Churachandpur District.
Police said based on an input regarding illegal transportation of arms and ammunitions from Churachandpur towards Moirang side, the combined team under the supervision of additional superintendent of police, Bishnupur, Roni Mayengbam and overall guidance of superintendent of police, Bisnupur, N Herojit Singh conducted frisking and checking at Torbung Bazaar, Churachandpur district.
While checking, the combined teams detained a car (Swift Dzire) which was driving very swiftly, and in that, two occupants of the car, Kamminthang and Thangbiaklal after overpowered by the teams was detained for verification.
On checking the car, the combined team found five 0.32 Pistol MK-II bearing body number 219128531 along with two magazine; 219122604 along with two magazines; 219128543 along with two magazines; GSF 21 03 02502 INDIAN ORDNANCE FACTORY with one magazine along with five live rounds of 0.32 mm and GSF 21 03 06974 INDIAN ORDNANCE FACTORY with one magazine.
The two persons were arrested at the spot and seized the arms and ammunitions. The arrested persons along with the seizures have been handed over to Moirang police station for further verification.
