The Tamenglong battalion of Assam Rifles on Friday assisted in construction of a reservoir embankment in Tamei village of Tamenglong district, Manipur.
The embankment has been constructed on a seasonal brook in the vicinity of the village which would also act as a reservoir, and has the capacity to store 10,000 litres of water.
During torrential rains, the stream’s water would continue flowing down and the embankment will not be an impediment to its natural flow.
The accumulated water will be employed in the manner as preferred by the locals.
This project has a great potential to overcome the frequent water shortages faced by the villagers in Tamei, and assists in judicious water conservation techniques for a more sustainable future.
