AR apprehends PLA cadre, foils cross-border smuggling

A joint team of Keithelmanbi battalion Assam Rifles and Manipur police on Wednesday apprehended a cadre of the proscribed UG group PLA from Chandrakhong, Thoubal district.
The UG cadre was apprehended during a join operation launched in the Chandrakhong area following a specific input, said IGAR in a release. It said the apprehended person was handed over to Nongpok Sekmai police station for further legal proceedings.
In another incident, the Tengnoupal battalion of AR under the aegis of IGAR (South) foiled a cross border smuggling of contraband items worth around Rs 11.60 lakh near Kwatha village, Tengnoupal district, said the release.
The contraband items were seized during a routine patrolling by troops of Assam Rifles, it stated, adding that the recovered items were handed over to Custom Prevention Force for further legal action.
