Amid the crisis situation in Manipur, several organisations have come forward with appeals for peace in the state. Joining the peace call, the IPFM and the MPCM have also issued appeals for peace and harmony in the state which is inhabited by a diverse groups of communities.
The Indigenous Peoples’ Forum Manipur (IPFM) on Friday expressed deep pain at the ethnic clashes between Kukis and ethnic Meiteis which has claimed many precious lives and properties in the affected areas.
In a release, IPFM urged the stakeholders to engage in soul searching in larger interest of peaceful coexistence among all the communities of Manipur.
IPF further appealed to all concerned to work together to find common ground for building a Manipur based on the principle of respecting one another’s district identities and promoting interdependent coexistence.
Meanwhile, the Meitei Pangal Council Manipur (MPCM) on Friday appealed to the people of the state to strive for the restoration of peace and unity in Manipur and work together for the development of the state.
A release by MPCM stated that the unfortunate turn of events between two communities have led to a loss of many innocent lives and have adversely affected the people, especially the students who had just started to recover from the adversities of COVID-19 pandemic.
It urged the stakeholders and the representatives of the two communities to come together in order to restore peace and harmony in the state. If the ongoing situation persisted, developments in Manipur will be hindered, it continued.
“It is high time for all people from different communities in the state to shed differences aside and develop an ideology of oneness for the sake of our motherland Manipur,” it added.
