A high-level meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be held in New Delhi on Monday to deliberate on the security situation in Manipur.

As per sources, the meeting is likely to be held in the North Block office of the Ministry of Home Affairs at 4 pm.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh will not be taking part in the meeting, as per sources. The meeting came close on the heels of Manipur governor Anusuiya Uikey’s visit to Delhi where she called on Amit Shah’s office and briefed about the prevailing situation in Manipur after a fresh outbreak of violence.

Sources said, the meeting will be attended by chief secretary of Manipur, DGP, Army, security forces along with state government officials. Senior officials from the Central Government including union home secretary Ajay Bhalla, director of Intelligence Tapan Deka will also take part in the meeting, the sources said.

Meanwhile, heavy reinforcements of CRPF, BSF, ITBP and RAF have begun arriving in the state amid the fresh wave of violence in Jiribam district triggered by the heinous killing of Soibam Saratkumar on June 10 by Kuki insurgents.

Central forces which had gone for election duty in different parts of the country had reportedly returned to the state for further duties given the abnormal situation and tension prevailing in the state, which had been brewing since the last one year.

There were widespread protests both in the valley and the hills when the Central forces were withdrawn from several vulnerable areas in the fringe villages located in both the valley and the hills.

As many as 200 companies of central forces have arrived in recent days and have started occupying schools and college hostels in and around Imphal, besides deployment in the hill areas also, as per sources.

Central forces have begun arriving in some places in Imphal West district including National Sports University in Senjam Chirang area, Kanto Sabal, Ingourok besides Tairenpokpi and Phayeng areas.
