The Affected Land and Property Owners’ Association (ALPOA) on Thursday announced that it has decided to stop the construction of Tamenglong-Mahur Road NH-137 indefinitely from Sunday.
The decision was announced after convening a joint meeting of all affected landowners at Peace Hall Tamenglong.
Speaking to the media, ALPOA Tamenglong chairman ID Gambui said that ALPOA has been demanding the state government of Manipur to conduct physical land survey, assessment and valuation of property for payment of compensation to the affected people at the earliest.
If the Tamenglong-Mahur road construction project is withdrawn, the state government must restore the destroyed land and standing properties or compensate for all the pilot cutting, random cutting, destroyed forest, farm, etc., he said.
Since the government did not respond to the ultimatum, ALPOA Tamenglong will not allow the company vehicles and machineries to move out until compensation is made for all the destroyed forest, farm, etc. he added.
They also shouted slogans like ‘no compensation, no work’, etc.
