The Special Judge (POCSO), Imphal West on Saturday remanded a man alleged of sexually assaulting an eight-year-old minor girl in Tengnoupal district on June 10, into judicial custody.
The accused Mangminlal Touthang, 33, son of Hemthang Touthang of Mission Veng, Moreh Ward No II presently residing at JH Vajang Village, Moreh was arrested by police on June 14, following a report of sexually assaulting the minor from Moreh.

The accused person was produced through video conferencing, during which the special public prosecutor submitted that the statements of the victim and the supporting witnesses have been recorded, and the recording of the witness is also under process. It was submitted that the remand of the accused is required for enabling the investigation officer to investigate the case properly.
As the accused was tested Covid positive through RT-PCR test on June 18, the court also directed the investigating officer to keep the accused in the designated temporary lock-up that is '01' room just behind Moreh police station or in any appropriate district Covid Care Centre until recovery.
The accused should be handed over to the superintendent of Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa after being discharged from the mentioned location, the order mentioned.
