During a press conference at Kekrupat on Thursday, chairman of the committee, Joychandra Konthoujam said that to commemorate the brave souls who sacrificed their lives for the unity and integrity of the state, the committee is set to organise the observance ceremony like every year.

He further said that preparation is almost done and transport service will be provided for people coming from farflung areas. The programme will begin at 6 am and go on till sunset, he added.

Floral tribute will be paid to the 18 departed souls during the movement launched in connection with a ceasefire agreement in 2001.

Resolutions will be taken in the presence of various communities on safeguarding the unity and integrity of the state. As such, people from all walks of life are requested to attend the ceremony without fail and not to organise any kind of entertainment function, the chairman of the organising committee appealed.

Vice-chairman of the committee, Ph. Nando Luwang said that people sacrificed their lives for the unity and integrity of the state, and hence, the committee is observing this day, conveying the message of unity and integrity of the state intact.

However, the Government of India is still adopting divisive policy in the state that threatens the unity and integrity of the state, the vice chairman noted.

To prevent such divisive policy of the Indian Government, there is a need for every community of the state to unite and stand together, Nando Luwang said and asserted that the committee will not tolerate any kind of action that will disintegrate the unity and integrity of the state.
