The All Manipur Christian Organisation (AMCO) has resolved to hold the august assembly of all denominational leaders of Christian faith on February 3 to decide further course of action, following the Election Commission's failure to respond to their demand for rescheduling of polling date.

The resolution was taken after receiving no response so far from the Chief Election Commissioner's (CEC) office in regards to the demand for rescheduling of polling dates for nine hill Assembly constituencies dominated by Christian, AMCO said in a release.

Following the announcement of election by the ECI on January 8, various Christian groups have been demanding re-arrangement of polling date for the nine assembly constituencies in the hill districts that are dominated by Christians, stating that the date of polling falls on Sunday, which is against the religious sentiment of the Christian community.

During a press conference held on January 20, chief election officer (CEO) of Manipur, Rajesh Agrawal had informed that the complaint has been forwarded to the Election Commission of India for consideration.

The release mentioned that AMCO leaders met the CEO on January 17 with a memorandum requesting CEC to change the date of the first phase of election so that it may not fall on Sunday which is the day of worship for the larger interest of the Christian community in the state.

It also stated that AMCO also held a special prayer on January 26 (Republic Day) and prayed for peace and progress of the country.
