All businesses, institutions to remain open on August 31: Manipur government

The Manipur Home Department requested all the heads of the Central and state government institutions to issue necessary instructions to normally function their institutions during the announced rally time.

The Manipur Home Department on Friday appealed to the general public including public functionaries to keep all business establishments, government offices and private institutions open and function normally on Saturday.

The statement, issued by Commissioner (Home), Government of Manipur, N Ashok Kumar, mentioned a public notice reportedly issued by Zomi Students Federation dated August 26 regarding organising a public rally on Saturday.

Subsequently, another public Notice was reportedly issued by Kuki Students' Organisation dated August 29 regarding organising a public rally at Kangpokpi district, also on Saturday and urging for shutting down of all business establishments, government offices and private institutions and join the rally, it stated. 

It asserted that the state government has issued necessary instructions to take up necessary preventive and precautionary measures along with a robust response mechanism to avoid any untoward incident and maintain law and order in the state. 

Any such act of issuing public notice for organising mass rally and urging to shut down institutions which can pose grave impact on the prevailing law and order situation and which are likely to pose serious repercussions in the context of the ongoing law and order crisis in the state, is viewed very seriously by the state government with utmost sensitivity, it maintained.

It reiterated its appeal to the general public including public functionaries to keep all business establishments, government offices and private institutions open and function normally on the said day. 

It further requested all the heads of the Central and state government institutions to issue necessary instructions to normally function their institutions during the announced rally time.

It further warned that anybody found involved or provocating in creating law and order situation in this regard will be prosecuted without exception under relevant provisions of laws of the land.
