Akashvani, Imphal will broadcast programmes in Liangmai dialect to the listeners of Manipur.
The same was informed in an order issued by Deputy Director of Programmes (Policy) for Director General, All India Radio, Santosh Kumar Nahar on Thursday.
The move was taken in response to the popular demand of the Liangmai community of Manipur, it stated. It further stated that decisions were made to provide a regular slot of programmes in the Liangmai dialect in the Fixed Point Chart (FPC) of Akashvani Imphal with immediate effect.
It directed the Head of Programme, Akashvani, Imphal, to make the necessary arrangements to implement the decision without delay. It further instructed to ensure that the programme reflects the cultural identity of the Liangmai community while also disseminating important public welfare information and government flagship schemes, in accordance with broadcast policy of Akashvani.
It referred to the office memorandum (O.M) dated August 9, 2024 issued by DG Akashvani, whereby it has been decided to permit Akashvani stations located in the sensitive and far-flung areas with significant tribal or minority communities to broadcast programmes in local language and dialects. The order is issued with the approval of the competent authority, it added.
