AITUC demands salary hike for ASHA workers

The All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) Manipur State Committee highlighted the efforts of ASHA workers during the COVID-19 pandemic and stressed that ASHA workers have not received adequate support or recognition.

The All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) Manipur State Committee demanded the authority concerned to address the demands of ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) workers as well as hike in their salary to Rs 15,000.

A release issued by  general secretary of the committee, L Sotin Kumar drew the attention of both central and state governments to address these demands of ASHA workers.

It highlighted the efforts of ASHA workers during the COVID-19 pandemic and stressed that ASHA workers have not received adequate support or recognition, it stated.

It is mentioned that the central government provides a mere Rs 2,000, while the state government offers Rs 1,000, claiming that it is insufficient, it added.

The statement also urged the authority concerned to acknowledge the efforts of ASHA workers and integrate them into government employment, it mentioned.

It further highlighted the assurance of the Health Minister to discuss the issues of ASHA workers which resulted in the postponement of their strike. It urged the authorities to give immediate and sustained attention to these demands, it added.
