The All India Congress Committee (AICC) comprising Congress Legislature Party (CLP) members, office bearers of AICC and the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Thursday called on Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan in Imphal regarding the prevailing crisis.
A release issued from the governor’s secretariat stated that the delegation led by former Union minister MP Mukul Wasnik apprised the governor of the prevailing post violence situation and urged her to take all possible steps to restore peace and normalcy in the state.
The delegation requested the governor for providing adequate relief to violence-hit people and urged for speedy re-settlement and rehabilitation of displaced people which are taking shelter at various relief camps in the state, it mentioned.
Uikey assured them all possible steps to restore peace and tranquillity in the state and speedy relief and rehabilitation works for the affected people, it added.
Meanwhile, the governor held a meeting with director general of police, Manipur, P Doungel and took stock of the prevailing law and order situation in the state, as per a release issued by the governor’s secretariat.
The DGP briefed the governor about the prevailing situation and security measures which are put in place to control any further untoward incidents in the state. He also highlighted the security deployment in vulnerable areas after the recent violence which broke out in the state.
The governor advised the DGP to take all steps to contain the violence and to put all efforts for maintenance of law and order in the state, the release added.
