ADG BSF Eastern Command, Kolkata Ravi Gandhi visited Manipur to take stock of the prevailing law and order situation and to review the operational preparedness of force in the wake of the fresh escalation of violence in Manipur.
On arrival, the ADG (EC) accompanied by Sh Sanjay Kumar Misra, IG M&C Ftr and IG STC BSF Churachandpur, Sh J K Birdi, DIG BSF SHQ BSF Manipur called on the director general of police, adviser (Security) and chief secretary of Manipur, and discussed the security scenarios of the state, stated a release.
Further on Wednesday, the visiting ADG (EC) reviewed an Attestation Parade of HC (RO/RM) of Border Security Force at STC BSF Churachandpur, it stated.
He also interacted with the officers and troops deployed in Manipur and appreciated their relentless efforts and contribution in maintaining law and order, and further motivated them to carry out their duties relentlessly with utmost professionalism, it added.
Meanwhile, the Centre has reportedly directed deployment of two fresh CRPF battalions comprising about 2,000 personnel for security duties in the state.
As per reports, battalion number 58 is being moved from Warangal in Telangana while the one numbered 112 is being sent from Latehar in Jharkhand. The first unit will have its headquarter in Kangvai while the second will be stationed around Imphal.
The development comes following the withdrawal of two Assam Rifles battalions from Manipur for operational duties in Jammu and Kashmir and some other parts of the Northeast.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has reportedly directed that all the companies (about 6 each) of these new two units to be based in various parts of the strife-torn state that has been witnessing ethnic conflict since May, 2023 claiming more than 200 lives.
