An abandoned house located at Goakhal village in Jiribam of Manipur was found bombarded by an improvised explosive device (IED) in the wee hours of Sunday.
The incident occurred around 3.10 am and the abandoned house belongs to one Tongbram Subash Singh, 65, son of (L) T Angouba Singh of Goakhal village. He is presently staying at Game village zone lV Lairembi Leikai, Imphal West after the June 6 incident in which a man was found beheaded and thousands of villagers had to flee even as over 70 houses were burned.
Police said the abandoned house is close to a Bishnupriya and a neighbouring Hmar village, Tuisen which is 3.5 km north east from Borobekra police station and 500 metres east from main Jiribam-Tamei road.
It said the house was damaged by unknown miscreants suspected to be armed Kuki militants with planting IED but in that no causality was found.
In a letter from the Secretary to the Chief Minister on January 27, it was mentioned that in view of incidents of gunfire reported in Jiribam on December 31 of last year, January 1, and January 21, the DGP was cautioned about the movement of armed miscreants from Churachandpur towards the Vangai Range bordering area of Jiribam and to take adequate measures to pre-empt the spread of the current law and order situation in Jiribam district, including the domination of strategic locations using central or state forces.
It was further informed that ITLF is reportedly considering cutting off supply lines to Imphal Valley via Jiribam.
Meanwhile, CM Biren said earlier that the June 6 incident followed by burning of houses and fleeing of over thousands of villagers was due to security lapses. However, after deploying additional forces in the district, the law and order situation is getting better.
