Aadhaar instrumental in delivery of social welfare schemes: Manipur chief secretary

A state-level workshop on ‘Recent Initiatives for Simplifying Aadhaar Usage’ was held in Imphal, Manipur to promote Aadhaar usage by states on Wednesday.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), Regional Office (RO) Guwahati on Wednesday organised a state-level workshop on ‘Recent Initiatives for Simplifying Aadhaar Usage’ in Imphal, Manipur as part of the effort to promote Aadhaar usage by states on Wednesday.

State chief secretary Rajesh Kumar, who took part at the workshop as chief guest, addressed the participants and officials, stating that Aadhaar is instrumental in the delivery of social welfare schemes, and urged the state government departments to notify ‘Section-7’ in schemes for implementation of Direct Benefit Transfer, stated a release.

CEO, UIDAI Saurabh Garg elaborated on the progress made by Aadhaar in the past decade, it stated. He highlighted in his speech that Aadhaar authentication provides an instant mechanism to prove your identity through online authentication, it mentioned.

It further stated that he emphasised that UIDAI will continue its efforts for improving the Ease of Living for residents and urged the state government of Manipur to implement DBT in every service delivery scheme to bring transparency.

Additional chief secretary, government of Manipur Vumlunmang Vualnam, also attended the workshop. Senior officials from the state government of Manipur attended the workshop and gave a detailed presentation on progress of Aadhaar enrolment and initiatives taken to implement DBT, it added.

In spite of difficult terrains, the Manipur state government has undertaken rigorous efforts to cover more than 80 per cent population, it stated. Best practices adopted by the state were also explained.

On the occasion, DDG UIDAI, RO Guwahati Devajit Khound, explained how Aadhaar has become the core of India’s digital public infrastructure, it mentioned. Aadhaar with its inherent features of uniqueness, authentication, financial address and e-KYC has helped the government authorities to directly reach residents for delivery of various subsidies, benefits and services, it stated.

He emphasised that Aadhaar is verifiable anytime, anywhere both online as well as off-line in a cost-effective way, it further stated.

In his speech, he emphasised on the use of Aadhaar in every social welfare scheme to bring transparency/visibility in the existing system and urged the state government that benefits shall be provided to the beneficiaries through Aadhaar Enabled Payment System for last mile delivery.

All the sessions of the workshop deliberated on Aadhaar features, key developments on usage of Aadhaar, data privacy and Information Security, it added.
