70-year-old dies in hit-and-run case in Thoubal

The deceased has been identified as one Sanasam Samer of Lamding Cherapur.

A 70-year-old man succumbed to his injuries in a hit-and-run case which took place at Tentha Lamkhai near Wangjing YK College along the National Highway Number 102 Imphal-Moreh road under Thoubal Police Station, around 10 am on Tuesday.

As per police sources, the deceased has been identified as one Sanasam Samer of Lamding Cherapur. He was riding a bicycle and headed towards Lamding from Wangjing before being hit by Tata Dumper truck (MN01 AA 0586) which came from Khongjom towards Wangjing.

He was rushed to Thoubal District Hospital in Khangabok. After receiving treatment, he was further referred to JNIMS for further treatment. However, he passed away at JNIMS while getting treatment.

Following the hit and run incident, the tata truck was sought by a police team led by additional SP (LO) Lakshya Sharma and additional SP (OPS) Sachidananda Soibam. After conducting a meticulous search operation by the team, the truck was seized around 4.30 pm from Wangjing Awang leikai.

Driver of the vehicle, Soibam Anand, 28, son of Kiran of Wangjing Awang leikai was arrested and taken to Thoubal police station to conduct further necessary procedure. A case has been registered regarding the case and body has been sent to JNIMS morgue for post mortem.
