Special Judge POCSO, Senapati on Tuesday announced the conviction of 22-year-old man for raping minor girl under section 6 of POCSO Act, 2012.
The court announced that after careful analysis of the testimonies of the witnesses and the evidences on record, it has come to the conclusion that there is a continuous chain of unbroken evidences depicting the facts that the accused had, indeed, sexually assaulted the minor girl, which are well complemented by the medical and forensic evidences too.
Also, the prosecution has proved beyond reasonable doubt that the accused committed aggravated penetrative sexual assault on the victim and cheated by giving false name as well as wrong village name.
The court convicted Santosh Limbu (22), son of Tej Bahadur of Thonglang Akutpa, Kangpokpi district in connection with the sexual assault case of July 2, 2020 and the court has fixed January 21 for sentence hearing.
The rape victim of about 12 years of age was allegedly sexually assaulted by the accused on the morning of July 2, 2020 in the forest while she was looking after the cattle (cows). The accused threatened to kill and beat the victim if she disclosed the incident, she told her mother.
The father of the victim, after getting the information from his wife, rushed to the village headman and a meeting was held between the accused and the victim’s family.
The accused sought forgiveness from the victim and placed Rs 10,000 at the feet of the victim. However, the victim’s father lodged the FIR on July 7, 2020 for befitting punishment according to the law.
