2007 voters in Sekmai AC have no influence of money and muscle power, says poorest candidate Popilal

Pointing out those using huge sums of money and power would only increase corruption and many other illegal activities to get that huge sum back, he declared that he will still fight the 2026 election without any money and muscle power.

Ningthoujam Popilal of the Nationalist Congress Party from Sekmai AC under Imphal West district, the youngest and the poorest candidate, who lost the elections, said the Manipur elections 2022 results showed that 2007 voters in Sekmai AC have no influence of money and muscle power.

Twenty-six-year-old Popilal secured only 2,007 votes, while winning BJP candidate H Dingo from the Sekmai constituency won 10,010 votes.

Speaking at his residence at Phayeng Mayai Leikai in Imphal West, Popilal said, “The 2,007 votes showed that the 2,007 voters of Sekmai AC have no influence of money and muscle power”.

Popilal was considered the poorest among all 265 candidates in the 12th state Assembly elections as he did not mention any assets in his election affidavit.

Appreciating the support shown to him by the youths during the election, he urged them to join politics instead of being a virtual warrior. He also expressed regret to those youths for only showing youth empowerment in social media.

Popilal appealed to the youths to be practical and show it in their actions rather than their words.

“I believe that the youths would work actively for the betterment of the state and to save Manipur in the next five year,” he added.

Expressing the confidence that the people who had supported him would increase in the next five years, he said, “My hope is still alive to fight the election in 2026.”

Congratulating the winning candidate (Dingo), he said he hoped that the BJP MLA would meet the hope of the people to bring development. He, however, said he would closely monitor the development works in the constituency and would expose if no development work is taken up.

Pointing out those using huge sums of money and power would only increase corruption and many other illegal activities to get that huge sum back, he declared that he will still fight the 2026 election without any money and muscle power.

Informing that there have been many essential items which have been extended by his supporters for his election, he said that he would donate all of the items which are in stock to old age homes, rehabilitation centres and children homes.
