Remembering the brutal killing of nine innocent civilians on January 7, 1995, the 28th RIMS Firing Victim Memorial Day was observed at the premises of RIMS Firing Victims Memorial Square, RIMS gate, Lamphelpat, Imphal on Saturday.
On January 7, 1995, CRPF personnel who were deployed at the then RMS, now known as RIMS, killed nine innocent civilians who were medical students and auto drivers present inside the campus at the time of the firing by a few underground cadres.
Medical Superintendent of RIMS, Dr Sanjib Singh, in his speech as the chief guest of the event, stated that he appreciated the trustees of the RIMS Firing Victims Memorial Trust for continuing their fight to get a verdict for the massacre and remembering the deceased.
Floral tributes were paid to the departed souls: Momi Riba from Arunachal (a medical student), Md Zakir Hussain Phundrei from Thoubal, Laimayum Pradip Sharma from Brahmapur Aribam Leikai, Wangkhem Opendro Singh from Uripok Bachaspati Leikai, Saikhom Premchand Singh from Uripok Achom Leikai, RK Khogen Singh from Lalambung Makhong Takhellambam Leikai, Angom Devendra Singh from Phayeng Sabal Leikai, Toijam Rajendro Singh from Wangkhei Ayangpalli and Hijam Khogen Singh from Uripok Polem Leikai.
