The IGP said the disposal of drugs was carried out as a part of the Regional Meeting on Drug Trafficking and National Security held at Guwahati and in the virtual presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, cooperative ministers and chief ministers of the entire north-eastern states.

Themthing said the disposal of drugs were carried out under the instruction of court for pre-trial and post-trial destruction orders against 57 major cases. He said there are many pending drug-related cases which will also be disposed of from time to time as per instruction from court.

However, Themthing did not respond when asked about the estimated value of the drugs that were disposed of, stating that there are variations on the value of drugs from place to place and it will be inconvenient to highlight the drug value. However, he said heroin powder and WY tablets are the high value drugs.
