Amid the COVID-19 lockdown, as many as 1,485 stranded Manipuris have returned to the state by flight while around 15,000 others returned by train from different parts of the country, according to official sources.
So far, 10 flights from Delhi and Guwahati, Assam have landed at the Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, Imphal, the transport department said.
On May 25, four flights landed at the Imphal airport as domestic flight operations resumed after nearly two months.
As many as 16 trains have brought back 14,617 returnees at the Jiribam railway station. Among the districts, Ukhrul has the maximum number of returnees with 2,260, followed by Imphal West 1,780, Churachandpur- 1,610, Thoubal- 1,480, Senapati- 1,417, Imphal East- 1,410, Bishnupur- 830, Tamenglong- 766 Kangpokpi- 765, Kakching- 614, Chandel- 450, Kamjong- 414 Noney-325, Jiribam- 210, Tengnoupal- 150 and Pherzawl- 136.
One train from Haryana carrying more than 1,300 passengers is scheduled to reach at 8 pm today, the sources said, adding two more trains from Delhi and Rajasthan are expected to arrive on Friday.
Meanwhile, Manipur reported 11 more COVID-19 positive cases, taking the total number of confirmed cases in the state to 55 and active cases to 50, officials said on Thursday.
