Twelve National People’s Front (NPF) members of Phungyar assembly constituency and Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) former president, Hopingson A Shimray joined Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday at state BJP office located at Nityaipat Chuthek, Imphal.

Speaking on the occasion, chief minister N Biren expressed his contentment over NPF members joining BJP saying that NPF is one of the coalition political parties of the present BJP-led government in the state. He appealed to the people of Phungyar to join BJP so that more development could be brought in Ukhrul and Kamjong districts.

With the coming of the present government in the last few years, there have been various developments both in hills and valleys. As a part of the development carried out by the government almost all the households of Kamjong district have been provided with drinking water facilities, he added.

He said Kamjong and Ukhrul districts are still lagging behind in development as compared with other districts.

State BJP president, A Sharda Devi said that in the next one or two months, BJP is going to allot party tickets for the BJP intending candidates.

It could be the first time in the history after India's independence that the people of hills have come to the valley to help the people in valley areas by donating fruits and vegetables. The ongoing pandemic is a tough time and the relationship grows among the people, she added.

With the BJP-led coalition government, bandh, strikes, economic blockades have been reduced immensely as compared with the period of the then government. The reason is due to bringing equal development both in hills and valleys and the party always prioritises in bringing equality not only in Manipur but in the entire north-eastern states, she added.
