The 12 mothers who were honoured were the 12 women who staged a nude protest against the Army in Manipur in front of Kangla Fort on July 15, 2004.

Speaking to the media, MAPI Council president KC Romeo said that the historic protest of the 12 mothers of Manipur will remain in history. It was a protest that had never happened before and may not happen again in the future, Romeo said, adding that it was the protest that removed the Army from Kangla.

Members of the MAPI Council also visited different places of the state, including the border areas for unity and integrity of the state. It is not a time to discriminate against each other, among the indigenous communities of the state, but rather it is time to join hands together to protect and prevent the influx of immigrants, he added.

The MAPI Council foundation day was attended by UPF president N Rupachandra; NIPCO president Oinam Premjit; CADA president Hijam Priyokumar; Hao Mee Research Guild chairman Robin Singlai; IMSCOM president Momsokam Bapui; and IMOM president Rengenson Thanga.
