As many as 110 stranded Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) workers were evacuated from the border area of Chandel district, Phaisanjang, on Monday, official sources said.
A Border Security Force (BSF) chopper airlifted the 110 PMGSY workers under the initiative of the state Home department, Assam Rifles-28 Sector Kakching, Chandel district administration, Chandel district police and the Kakching district administration, the district information officer, Chandel, stated in a release.
“They were trapped in interior areas of Chandel district since the riots broke out on May 3,” the DIO said, adding that four trips were flown to evacuate all 110 labours from Phiasanjang Khengjoi Sub division.
The evacuation was delayed because of rain and cloudy weather in the interior areas of Chandel, the DIO added.
Deputy Commissioner, Chandel M Rajkumar, SP Chandel, PH Mahesh Narain, ADC Chandel and SDO Kakching, MD Firoj Khan and SDO Kakching, Okram Sandhyarani Devi, were present in the evacuation, the release further said.
