11 drug peddlers apprehended; drugs, ammunition seized

Volunteers of Manipur Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), with the assistance of Imphal West police seized heroin powder, a CO2 air pistol, a live round of AK 47 rifle and apprehended 11 drug peddlers at different spots late Monday evening.

A team of BJYM volunteers led by its state president M Barish Sharma conducted a drive at a lodge in North AOC area around 8.30 pm on Monday, in continuation and supporting the present government’s ‘War on Drugs 2.0’ campaign.

During the drive, the volunteers detained as many as seven drug peddlers while heroin powder and cash used for committing criminal activities were seized. Later, the seven persons were handed over to Imphal West police for further legal action.

In continuation of the drive, the same BJYM team conducted another drive at a residence located at Khongman zone I, Imphal East.

One Shreemayum Sanathoi, 26 and Sh Inaocha were apprehended but two drug peddlers, namely Sh Dipu and Malemnganba managed to escape along with a plastic bag suspected to be containing drugs, by taking the advantage of darkness.

On questioning, and from the disclosure of Sanathoi, another Sh Suraj Singh, 22, son of Sh Abu from the same locality was also apprehended by the team.

The team again apprehended another drug peddler, Aribam Dipu, 25, son of late Aribam Dhanjoy from Khongman Zone I, Imphal East. From the disclosure of the three drug peddlers, it was learnt that they were getting the drugs from a residence at Singjamei Kshetri Leikai, Imphal East.

The BJYM volunteers rushed to the said residence as pointed out by the three drug peddlers and conducted a drive.

When the volunteers tried to enter at the residence of one Okram Ajit, 34, son of O Suresh of Singjamei Keshtri Leikai, Imphal East, Ajit tried to escape by threatening the BJYM volunteers with a CO2 Air pistol; however, the volunteers overpowered and managed to apprehend Ajit.

On searching Ajit’s bedroom, a huge amount of heroin powder packed in plastic vials was detected along with a single live round of AK 47 rifle.

The 4 drug peddlers along with the seizures were handed over to Imphal East district police for further necessary legal action.
