Tributes pour in for martyrs on Kargil Vijay Diwas

Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated on July 26 every year to mark India's victory over Pakistan and to pay respect to the bravehearts who battled in the 60-day long ‘Operation Vijay’.

As India observes the 23rd anniversary of the Kargil war, many political leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, took to Twitter to pay their homage to the martyrs on Kargil Vijay Diwas.

Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed on July 26 every year to commemorate India's victory over Pakistan and to pay respect to the bravehearts who battled in the 60-day long ‘Operation Vijay’.

Taking to Twitter, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Kargil Vijay Diwas is a symbol of pride and glory of "Maa Bharati".

"Kargil Vijay Diwas is a symbol of pride and glory of Maa Bharati. On this occasion, my salute to all the brave sons of the country who have accomplished their valor in the defense of the motherland. Jai Hind!" PM Modi tweeted in Hindi.

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted,"On Kargil Vijay Diwas, India salutes the bravery, courage and sacrifice of our armed forces. They fought valiantly in extremely harsh conditions to defend our motherland. Their act of valour & indomitable spirit will remain etched forever as a defining moment in India’s history."

"Kargil Vijay Diwas is a reminiscence of undaunted bravery & courage of the #Bravehearts who inscribed a golden chapter in history, with their blood & sacrifice. They gave a befitting reply to enemy's misadventure and a resounding victory to #India," the Additional Directorate General of Public Information, IHQ of MoD (Army),

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also paid his tributes to the martyrs of the Kargil war.

"Join the nation in saluting the valor and sacrifices of our brave Armed Forces on Kargil Vijay Diwas. Their courage and commitment keeps the nation safe and secure," Jaishankar wrote in Twitter.

Mnaipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said the supreme sacrifice of the Armed Forces will always be remembered.

"On this #KargilVijayDiwas, I salute the grit & valour of our bravehearts who defended every inch of our motherland. Commemorating our nation’s victory over Pakistan in 1999, we will always remember the supreme sacrifice of our Armed Forces," CM Biren tweeted.
