Parliament Monsoon Session: 'Sufficient time will be allotted as per the need for discussion on matters of urgent public importance'

The ninth session of the 17th Lok Sabha is set to begin from July 18 and is likely to conclude on August 12, and it will have 18 sittings.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla chaired a meeting with the leaders of parties in the Lok Sabha at the Parliament House complex on Saturday and said sufficient time will be allotted as per the need for discussion on matters of urgent public importance during the Ninth Session of the 17th Lok Sabha set to begin from July 18. The session is likely to conclude on August 12.

Birla said that as per the schedule, there will be 18 sittings during the session and a total time of 108 hours will be available out of which about 62 hours will be available for government business, according to a release.

The remaining time has been allotted for Question Hour, Zero Hour and private members' business.

In addition to government business, sufficient time will be allotted as per the need for discussion on matters of urgent public importance.

Birla also said the timing of submission of notice for raising matters during Zero Hour has been changed. Now members can give notices from 0900 hours of a given day to 0800 hours of the session day on which the members desire to raise their matters in the House uring Zero Hour.

Notices for Monday or the first working day of the week may be given between 9 am on Friday or the last working day of the previous week and 8 am on Monday or the first working day of that week.

The notices received up to 8 am on the same day of the session on which the members wish to raise their matter in the House shall be balloted by computer immediately after 0800 hrs. Members’ portal will remain open for online submission of information on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

Birla also informed that like the previous Sessions, proper COVID-19 protocol will be followed in this Session and adequate arrangements have been made in this regard. Elaborate security arrangements have also been made for the session, he said.

Appealing the leaders of political parties in the Lok Sabha for smooth conduct of the House during the Session, Birla expressed hope that political parties and members will cooperate.
