The Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (APP) is set to return to power for a third consecutive term in  New Delhi. Kejriwal on Tuesday, jubilant after a massive win in the Delhi elections 2020, thanked the people of Delhi for giving a mandate to his party and said, ” I love you”.

Thanking the people of Delhi for their support, Kejriwal said, “This is not my victory. This is a victory for Delhi- of the people who consider me as their son and voted for us. For every family that got 24-hour electricity, water and education”.

Addressing his supporters and party leaders, Kejriwal began his speech with  “Bharat Mata ki Jai“, “Vande Mataram” and “Inquilab Zindabad” slogans. The AAP leader thanked Lord Hanuman and said he has blessed the people of Delhi.

“This is the day of Lord Hanuman who has blessed the people of Delhi. We pray that Hanuman Ji keeps showing the right path to us so that we continue to serve people for the next five years,” Arvind Kejriwal said as the crowd cheered their leader.

“For the first time in the history of India, an election has been won on the basis of work,” the Aam Aadmi Party said on its Twitter account.

Kejriwal said the victory is a new beginning of a new kind of politics.

The Delhi Assembly elections results have brought in another reason to celebrate for Kejriwal as it is also his wife’s birthday. The Delhi CM shared some lighter moments with his wife Sunita Kejriwal as AAP takes big lead in the Delhi Election.

Meanwhile, Sunita said AAP’s win is the “victory of truth”.

As per trends, the Aam Aadmi Party is all set to sweep the Delhi election, with 62 seats in the 70-member assembly. While the BJP managed to win eight seats, the Congress failed to secure a single seat.

While Kejriwal is ahead in the New Delhi seat, Deputy CM Manish Sisodia has won from Patparganj seat by a margin of over 2,000 votes. AAP’s Atishi and Amanatullah Khan has won from the Kalkaji and Okhla seats respectively. Khan secured the Okhla seat where Jamia University and Shaheen Bagh, the epicentre of anti-CAA protests – are located by over 70,000 votes over BJP’s Braham Singh.

Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi party came to power in 2015 with a majority of 67 seats in the 70-member Delhi Assembly. However, the BJP has surged tally from three in 2015 to seven this year. The Congress party, which once ruled the capital, failed to open account yet again.

The counting of votes for the 70 seat Assembly began at 8 am amid tight security.

Although the AAP, BJP and the Congress are the main contenders, the Delhi Assembly polls, which was held on February 8 in a single-phase, was largely seen as a face-off between the AAP and the BJP.
