Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain's condition deteriorates, to undergo plasma therapy

The health minister has been put on complete oxygen support. He has also been diagnosed with pneumonia.

Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain's medical condition on Friday deteriorated after after his lungs infection increased. He will be shifted to the ICU of Max Super Speciality Smart hospital in Saket and will be given plasma therapy, reports said.

The health minister who tested positive for COVID-19 has been put on complete oxygen support, reports said, adding that the minister has also been diagnosed with pneumonia.

"His latest CT scan report shows that the pneumonia patches in his lungs have increased. He experienced increased giddiness and tiredness today. The advice of doctors will be followed," the reports said quoting a government source.

The 55-year-old minister tested positive for the novel coronavirus on Wednesday, a day after he was admitted to Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital after he developed COVID-19 like symptoms, such as high fever and difficulty in breathing. His test result came positive for the novel coronavirus after the second test on Wednesday.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has been given the additional charge of the Health Ministry after Jain tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

Meanwhile, as per the Union Health Ministry, Delhi reported 2,877 COVID-19 positive cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total cases in the national capital to 49,979, including 21,341 recovered cases and 1,969 deaths.

Delhi is the third worst-hit state in India after Maharashtra with 1,20,504 cases and Tamil Nadu with 52,334 cases.
