Polling for the Congress presidential elections is underway. The voting began around 10 am and will continue till 4 pm. Two senior party leaders - Shashi Tharoor and Mallikarjun Kharge are in the fray. The counting of votes will held on October 19.
The two candidates reaffirmed their devotion to the success of the party prior to the polling.
"My best wishes to @ShashiTharoor. Spoke to him earlier today, both of us are contesting to strengthen @INCIndia to build a stronger & better nation for the future generations," Kharge tweeted.
"Spoke to Mallikarjun @kharge this morning to wish him well & to reaffirm my respect for him & our shared devotion to the success of @incIndia," Tharoor also tweeted.
While former prime minister Manmohan Singh, Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi cast their votes to elect the new president of the Congress party at the AICC headqurters in Delhi, party leader Rahul Gandhi cast his vote in Karnataka.
Shashi Tharoor cast his vote at Indira Bhavan, Thiruvananthapuram.
"It’s this morning at @incKerala headquarters, Indira Bhavan, Thiruvananthapuram, in the party’s Presidential elections. Whatever happens, may @incIndia win!" Shashi Tharoor tweeted after casting his vote.
In Manipur, MPCC delegates, including CLP leader Okram Ibobi Singh, deputy CLP leader K Ranjit Singh, CWC member Gaikhangam, president K Meghachandra, former presidents TN Haokip and N Loken Singh, MPCC working presidents Fajur Rahim and K Devabarta Singh MP have so far cast their votes to elect a new Congress President at Polling Booth No.33, Congress Bhawan, Imphal. A total of 54 voters from Manipur will cast their votes to decide the fate of the Congress party.
