Congress party president Sonia Gandhi has tested positive for COVID-19 and isolated herself, party sources said on Thursday.
"Congress President Smt. Sonia Gandhi has tested positive for Covid - 19. We wish for her speedy recovery and good health," the Congress party said in a Twitter post.
Party general secretary and member of the Congress Working Committee Randeep Singh Surjewala informed in a series of tweets that the party president had developed mild fever and COVID-19 symptoms on Wednesday evening.
"Congress President, Smt Sonia Gandhi has been meeting leaders & activists over last week, some of whom have been found Covid +ve. Congress President had developed mild fever & Covid symptoms last evening. On testing, she has been found to be Covid positive," Surjewala tweeted.
She is fine and has isolated herself, Surjewala said in another tweet.
"As per medical advise, Congress President has isolated herself. As a large number of Congressmen & women & well wishers have expressed concern, we want to stay that she is fine and recovering. We thank everyone for their good wishes," the general secretary tweeted.
He further informed that Sonia Gandhi will appear before the Enforcement Directorate on June 8. The ED had summoned Sonia Gandhi and former party leader Rahul Gandhi to appear before it in connection with the National Herald case on June 8.
"Congress President will appear before ED on 8th June, as informed by us earlier. We, at Indian National Congress, shall keep you posted about any future developments," Surjewala wrote.
Meanwhile, Congress party general secretary incharge KC Venugopal has also tested positive for the viral infection.
"Congress GS in-charge Shri @kcvenugopalmp has tested positive for Covid-19. Wishing him a full and speedy recovery," the Congress party posted on Twitter.
