Awllen Festival 2023, the two-day-long post-harvest festival of the Vaiphei tribe, organised by the Young Vaiphei Association (YVA) at Bethel Veng in Churachandpur district was inaugurated on Monday.
As the chief guest of the event, Manipur MP Lorho S Phoze unfurled the YVA flag. He spoke about the various grievances of the tribal community and assured that the ‘Act East Policy’ will be a boon for the tribal communities from the government.
The MP mentioned the ongoing issue of the ST status demand movement by the “valley dwellers”, stating that every citizen of a democratic community has the right to demand what they believe in as long as their demands are rational and backed by historical facts.
Phoze also commended CM N Biren for initiating the drive against poppy plantation and informed the people about the irreversible consequences of poppy plantation on cultivation land as well as on society.
As part of the event, the chief secretary of the state P Vaiphei urged the MP to extend support to the Young Vaiphei Association in establishing an office complex and submitted a memorandum for the same.
