Unauthorised homestay structures in Loktak Lake to be removed within 15 days

In a notice issued by LDA on Monday (July 18), the association stated that the state government is striving hard to rejuvenate the ecological condition of the Loktak Lake and delist it from the Montreux Record.

In an effort to rejuvenate the ecological condition of Loktak Lake and delist it from the Montreux Record, the Loktak Development Authority (LDA) has decided to remove all the unauthorised activities in the lake within 15 days from the date of publication of the notice.

In a notice issued by LDA on Monday (July 18), the association stated that the state government is striving hard to rejuvenate the ecological condition of the Loktak Lake and delist it from the Montreux Record.

The notice also mentioned that it has been observed that exponential rise in the numbers of Athaphum, houses (Homestay) and huts constructed on Phumdi have put the lake at risk, impacting the natural environment adversely. It is also observed that such homestays have also become a social issue as these are operated without proper regulations, it stated.

In view of these impact, causing serious deterioration in ecological condition of the Loktak Lake and to improve and restore its condition, it is hereby notified to all the concerned that all Athaphum, hut or house on Phumdi (homestay) within the premises of Loktak Lake excluding Champu Khangpok shall be removed/dismantled by the concerned individual, person, society etc. within period of 15 days from the date of publication of the notice, the LDA said in the notification.

The steps are taken under the exercise of the powers conferred by section 4, 19, 20 of the Manipur Loktak Lake (Protection) Act, 2006 read with section 5 of the said Act, it stated.

In case any of the concerned fails to comply with the notice, the Loktak Development Authority shall take necessary action for removal of such unauthorized activities without further notice in order to save the lake from further deterioration, the LDA stated.
