United Association of Recognised Schools of Manipur (UARSoM) an apex body of the entire private school association of the state, has urged the government to revoke the order for exemption of monthly tuition fees and payment of salaries to private school teachers during lockdown.

Speaking in a press conference on Tuesday held at Takyel Kolom Leikai, Imphal, president of UARSoM, Laishram Joy Singh said the order is biased and the government needs to review the order and issue a fresh order by considering the situation for the school authorities as well.

He said the apex body does not say that the government’s order is less bothered about the plight of the school authorities. Most of the private schools in both the hills and valleys have not completed the process of school admission for the new session, he informed. The maximum amount of funds which comes from the school admission fees is utilized in renovating the school infrastructure. So each school authority cannot manage the monthly salaries for teachers by the admission fees alone, he added.

The private schools are also contributing a lot during the lockdown as most of the private schools are being utilized as community quarantine centers. For some parents, they do not wish to send their children back to schools though the schools are properly sanitized. The parents do not want to take risks, he said. The private schools are contributing for the welfare of the state regardless of the uncertainties which lie ahead.

He urged the government to revoke the order issued recently and issue a fresh order without creating biases among students, teachers and school authority.
