United Association of Recognised Private Schools Association Manipur (UARSoM) on Saturday requested the schools to collect less than the 50 per cent of monthly payable fees from families which are severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The school authorities must take such a decision only after finding out the real situation of the families, UARSoM stated in a release.

UARSoM was responding to the state government order on June 16 which allows private and government aided schools to collect 50 per cent of monthly payable fees from the parents.

A release issued by UARSoM on Saturday stated that it took into consideration the government order which stated that it has no objection if any parents wish to pay more than the prescribed 50 per cent of the monthly fees.

As such, UARSoM also requested the parents to pay 70 per cent of monthly payable fees in view of the hardships faced by the schools during the pandemic, the release added.

However, schools which do not conduct online classes or any other activities during the pandemic should not collect student tuition fees from the parents, it added.

UARSoM also requested the schools to not collect more than 70 per cent of monthly payable fees from the parents.

For students who still have not completed the admission process, UARSoM also declared that the schools should not be held responsible if the said students are left out from the online class.

UARSoM stated that the state government order on June 16 has been issued in the interest of the student’s families and the teachers and staff working in private schools, affected by the pandemic.

The order is also issued after the government acknowledges the problems and difficulties faced by the management in private schools, it added.

On June 16, an order issued by the directorate of Education stated that private and government aided schools are allowed to take 50 per cent of monthly payable fees, and teachers and staff should be given 70 per cent of the monthly payable salary.

However, the order stated that tuition fees should not be charged for the students whose both parents have died owing to COVID-19. The department has no objections if any parents wish to pay more than the prescribed 50 per cent of the monthly fees in the interest of the teaching community during the pandemic, the order stated.

Further, the order also mentioned that the newly prescribed fees and salary structures shall be effective from May 1, 2021, and the online or distance learning mode should be continued to the extent possible.
