The students' unions of Shri Shri Balmukunda Dev Music College Students, Government Dance College and Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy jointly urged the authority of Manipur University of Culture (MUC) to disclose their stand in connection with the pending demand of taking admission in Master courses in the varsity as soon as possible.

A joint release issued by the students' unions stated that as per guidelines of MUC, students who pursue diploma or virashad along with Bachelor degree from these institutions are not allowed to take admission in master courses opened in the university. However, the prescribed rule is against the UGC and not applicable in other universities in India. As such the student unions have been protesting since the opening of master degree in the varsity in 2020-2021.

The university authority could not materialise the demand till date, it added while stating that demands were made concerning the fate of these institutions and to promote MUC.

It further stated that the unions came to know that master courses in the varsity have been ineffective due to less number of admissions. In some departments, the number of faculty is more than the students. The university was set up with an objective to promote the rich culture of the state but not allowing admission for students who have done diploma and BA from Shri Shri Balmukunda Dev Music College Students, Government Dance College and Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy is highly condemnable.

If the MUC authority can clarify that their guidelines are implementable and acceptable in other universities, the unions can withdraw the demand, it added.

The release stated that MUC authority has urged the student unions to give time to review the admission guidelines of master courses in the varsity. However, the decision taken by the varsity to allow entry of students of these institutions through lateral process is not acceptable.

Appealing to the authority of MUC to disclose their stand, it demanded that until the issue is settled, no admission must be taken.
