Pointing out various irregularities in the DM University, six student bodies of Manipur have come together to launch various agitation, warning the government that it will be responsible if students lose their academic career due to the university’s dysfunction.
The six student bodies include MSF, DESAM, KSA, SUK and AIMS.
Speaking to the media on behalf of the student bodies at Imphal, AIMS president Nikarson Oinam highlighted the several grievances.
He alleged that the absence of regular key figures in the university, including the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, Controller of Examination, and Finance Officer, has resulted in a delay in the examination process and other irregularities.
He pointed out that the delay in the 6th semester examination for UG courses may prevent students from pursuing their PG studies in other institutes, even if they pass the CUET, as they will not be able to produce the documents for completing UG.
The results of the regular 5th semester examination have not been declared yet, and the dates for the 2nd and 4th semester examinations have not been fixed, he said, adding the 4th semester examination for PG courses, conducted in 2022-23, is still pending, and the 1st and 3rd semester examinations for PG courses for the academic session 2023-24 have not been conducted.
Due to the university not receiving the 12B status from the UGC, research scholars are not receiving their fellowships, he added.
The president alleged that this is a result of the university not having regular key officials, with the posts being held by in-charge officers.
In regards to it, the student bodies have urged the state government to take immediate action to address these issues and ensure the smooth functioning of the university.
